Timeline of key events in the history of Linear Corporation
1985 - Linear aligns itself
with Schlage for the development and sale of a do-it-yourself system
program. Combined system sales under the Keepsafer banner was in
excess of 250,000 units.
1985 - Linear Corporation forms
the Linear Door Products Division. The Division represents the merger
of Linear's Moore-O-Matic garage door operator subsidiary with the
radio access controls portion of the Linear Security Product Group.
1985 - Linear develops the first
multi-million code RF format (Megacode).
1987 - Linear expands operations
by leasing a new building north of Palomar Airport in Carlsbad,
California. The new building housed Linear's warehouse, Marketing
Services, Technical Services, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance.
1987 - Linear Corporation co-founders
Ted Farrell and Bill Schanbacher sell their interest in the company.
1987 - Nortek
Incorporated of Providence, Rhode Island submitted a tender
offer to purchase and acquired the remaining public share of Linear
Corporation.
1987 - Linear's Niteowl version
of the Security Light Control received a Certificate of Merit in
the Governor's award for Hong Kong design.
1988 - Linear Corporation welcomes
Grant Rummell as president on August 24, 1988.
1988 - Linear/SESCOA opens the
We Monitor America (WEMA) UL listed Central Station in Scottsdale,
Arizona.
1989 - Linear introduces the
first product incorporating the Megacode format. The SilentSignal
was developed as an emergency reporting system for the convenience
store market.
1990 - The 21st SENTRY package
is introduced. The product wins a new product award at the ISC West
show.
1994 - Linear introduces the
SSD system. With a quantity price of less than $200.00 for the base
system, it is perfect for the zero down market seller
as well as the do-it-yourself market.
1994 - Linear enters the access
control market with the AccessMaster product line. AccessMaster
incorporates the MegaCode format for its RF needs.
1995 - Linear introduces the
DX product line. DX is the first economical RF product designed
for add-on to any system with 1,000,000 plus codes and quick learn
technology. It replaces Standard Digital.
1997 - Linear purchases NOVI.
The acquisition solidifies Linears position as a force in
the retail security market.
1997 - Linear replaces the SSD
with the DVS program. By adding supervision to the program, Linear
now has the first supervised security package that can be installed
in less than two hours.
1998 - On December 30, 1998
the assets of Moore-O-Matic were sold to the Chamberlain Group.
1999 - Linear purchases the
Multi-Code product line solidifying Linears position as the
major supplier of radios to the remote control market.
1999 - Linear Corporation purchases
the assets of Multiplex Technology Incorporated of Brea, California.
Multiplex (Channel Plus) provides electronic products used to expand
television and telephone capabilities.
1999 - Linear Corporation purchases
the assets of Xantech Corporation of Sylmar, California. Xantech
is a leading designer and manufacturer of residential infrared remote
control music systems.
2001 - Linear introduces its
line of garage door operators to the door industry.
2002 - Linear Corporation wins Judge's Choice Residential
Award for the RE-1 (Residential Telephone Entry System) at the ISC
Expo/East.
2003 - Linear Corporation acquires ELAN Home Systems of Lexington,
Kentucky. ELAN Home Systems provides whole-house entertainment,
communication and automation systems for new residential construction
and retrofit markets.
2003 - Linear Corporation purchases the assets of SpeakerCraft
of Riverside, California. SpeakerCraft is a leading designer and
supplier of architectural loudspeakers and other multi-room audio
systems products used in residential custom applications.
2003 - Linear Corporation purchases OSCO (Operator Specialty Company, Inc).
OSCO is located in Casnovia, Michigan and manufactures a variety of Gate Openers
and Barrier Gates.
2004 - Linear LLC acquires OmniMount Corporation of Phoenix,
Arizona. OmniMount is a leader in manufacturing and marketing installation
solutions for home electronics.
2004 - Linear Asian Operations receives the Civilized Enterprise
Award for the third consecutive year.
2004 - Linear LLC acquires M&S Systems. Located in Dallas, Texas, M&S Systems
is an industry leader in the design and manufacture of convenience oriented home products.
2005 - Linear LLC acquires Panamax, Inc., a designer and
distributor of innovative power conditioning and surge protection
products that improve the audio and video quality and prevent the
loss or damage of home and small business electronics equipment
due to power disturbances.
2005 - Linear LLC acquires Niles Audio of Miami, Florida. Niles sells and designs
products that provide customers with innovative solutions for whole-house distribution and
integration of audio and video systems, including speakers, receivers, amplifiers, automation devices,
controls and accessories.
2005 - Linear LLC acquires Imerge. Imerge is located in Cambridge, United Kingdom
and designs, manufactures and sells hard disk media players and multi-room audio servers.
2005 - Linear LLC acquires Sunfire, a well-regarded manufacturer of high-end speakers, home audio,
and home theater electronics and subwoofers.
2005 - Linear LLC acquires GTO, Inc. GTO is located in Tallahassee, Florida and designs,
manufactures and sells automatic electric gate openers and access control devices to enhance
the security and convenience of both residential and commercial property fences.
2006 - After 45 years in the business, and 21 years at our present location, Linear LLC relocates to a 53,022 square-foot new corporate headquarters facility in the Carlsbad Corporate Center at 1950 Camino Vida Roble in Carlsbad, California.
2006 - Linear LLC acquires Furman Sound. Furman is located in Petaluma, California and designs
and sells audio and video signal processors, as well as, innovative AC power conditioning and distribution products.
2006 - Linear LLC acquires Secure Wireless, Inc. and Advanced Bridging Technologies, Inc. (ABT).
Secure Wireless designs and sells wireless security products for the residential and commercial markets while ABT designs and sells innovative radio
frequency control products and accessories. Both Secure Wireless and ABT are located in Carlsbad, CA.
2006 - Linear LLC acquires Magenta Research, Ltd. Magenta is located in New Milford, CT and designs and sells products
that distribute audio and video signals over Category 5 and fiber optic cable to multiple display screens.
2006 - Linear LLC acquires Gefen, Inc. Gefen is located in Woodland Hills, CA, and specializes in ADC, DVI, USB and VGA KVM extensions and switchers.
2007 - Linear LLC acquires LiteTouch, Inc. LiteTouch is located in Salt Lake City, UT, and provides lighting control and automation for residential lighting and commercial lighting projects.
2007 - Linear LLC wins the 2007 SIA New Product Achievement Award for the M&S System Brand DMC-10 [Structured Wire Intercom System] at the ISC Expo/West Las Vegas.
2007 - Linear LLC acquires C.P. Allstar Corporation located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Allstar is a manufacturer and distributor of residential gate operators, garage door openers, radio controls and accessory products for the garage door and fence industry.
2007 - Linear LLC acquires International Electronics, Inc. IEI is located in Canton, Massachusetts and designs and sells security and access-control components and systems for use in residential and light commercial applications.
2007 - Linear LLC acquires Aigis Mechtronics. Aigis is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and manufactures and sells equipment, such as camera housings, into the closed-circuit television portion of the global security market.
2008 - Professional Builder magazine and the Reed Builder Group have named Linear's HDMI-MX-4X4 4x4 Matrix as one of the 100 Best New Products for 2008. The HDMI-MX-4X4 is the flagship product in Linear's new Whole-house High-definition Video Distribution line, which is designed to give home entertainment installers and dealers a new, affordable resource for high-definition AV wiring.
2008 - Linear LLC, an innovator in home technology solutions for security, communications, and entertainment, announced that its new DX-COKIT Supervised Carbon Monoxide Detector Transmitter and Receiver Kit has received special recognition from the Security Industry Association (SIA) as the best new product in the Fire/Life Safety category. The award was made at the ISC West conference held in Las Vegas.
2009 - Linear introduces its Encore Digital Audio Distribution System featuring award-winning DIGI-5 technology. The 4-source, 4-zone/room system can be expanded to 32 zones or rooms. Each room keypad contains a high-power, 80-watt, Class D digital amplifier for connection to stereo speakers. Distribution of 24-bit digital signals between the system hub and
keypads provides high-quality sound with no degradation common to analog audio distribution systems.
2011 - Linear was honored for its industrial design acumen at CEDIA Expo 2011 when its DMC1 iPlay® Dock for Portable Devices - MP3 & CD player was presented with a Best AV Component Resi Award from Residential Systems Magazine.
2012 - Linear LLC wins the 2012 SIA Best in Residential & Monitoring Solutions New Product Showcase for the VMC1 [Video Security Intercom] at ISC West in Las Vegas.
2013 - Linear announces the addition of Z-Wave products to its innovative line of wireless residential and commercial offerings.
2013 - Linear's eMerge Essential Plus wins the EC&M 2013 Award in the Security Equipment and Systems category.
2013 - Linear LLC acquires 2GIG, a leading provider of Home automation and Home security. The acquisition expands the opportunities for dealers and OEM customers in areas of smart home technology, integrated security and access control, and recurring monthly revenue (RMR).
